Guide
How much does a website cost in Malaysia in 2026
In 2026, most Malaysian SMEs pay roughly RM2,000–RM15,000 for a professionally built website, according to ELF Digital Studio's October 2026 pricing guide. A simple company site sits at the low end. Online stores and custom web apps cost more. Hosting, the domain, and maintenance add yearly costs. The right price depends on what the site must do. These are published market ranges, not my prices.
Prices by the kind of site
Guides count the cost in different ways. Some are one-time build fees. The GoDaddy basic band is a yearly figure, often a builder. I last checked these pages on 27 October 2026.
| Type | Published range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Template or DIY builder | RM1,000–RM3,000, or builder plans from about RM50 a month | ELF Digital Studio, 12 October 2026 |
| Company site, about 5–10 pages | RM2,000–RM5,000 | ELF Digital Studio, 12 October 2026 |
| Online store | RM5,000–RM12,000 | ELF Digital Studio, 12 October 2026 |
| Custom web app or large site | RM10,000–RM25,000 and up | ELF Digital Studio, 12 October 2026 |
| Basic small-business site | RM500–RM3,000 a year | GoDaddy Asia |
| Professional build | RM2,200–RM30,000 | GoDaddy Asia |
| Large custom build | RM50,000–RM100,000 and up | GoDaddy Asia |
The ZenWeb 2026 pricing page says most SMEs pay about RM3,000–RM10,000 upfront for a one-off site, and sells its own plans at RM379 and RM479 a month on a one-year contract. Acclaira, on 24 June 2026, put a DIY or budget template around RM500–RM3,500.
What drives the price
01
Pages and custom interface
A short company site is a smaller build than a product with its own screens, accounts, and states. A layout made for the brand takes longer than filling in a template.
02
Editing the site later
A template or WordPress site is often chosen so a non-developer can change text. A custom Next.js app is chosen when the product has logins, saved records, or workflows. The editing model is part of the quote.
03
Shop or payments
Selling online adds a catalogue, checkout, and a payment provider. That is a different scope from a site that only explains a service.
04
Integrations
Connecting login, an existing shop, or a tool the team already uses adds discovery and testing. At Bloomthis, a Shopify connection into internal order workflows was its own piece of work.
05
Content
The quote changes depending on whether you write the words and supply the photos, or the build also includes that work. GoDaddy Asia lists copywriting in Malaysia at about RM500–RM1,500 a page.
06
Care after launch
Fixes, testing, and small improvements after release are separate from the first build. See the maintenance page for what that care includes.
Template or a custom Next.js build
Template or WordPress
This fits a brochure: a handful of pages, a contact form, and a way for the team to edit text. Published packages in Malaysia, including monthly WordPress plans, sit in this band. It is the wrong tool when the product needs accounts, a dashboard, or custom rules.
Custom Next.js
This is what I use for web apps. KinetiqMind, CertWatch, and OptaFit are Next.js products with accounts and saved data. The build costs more because the interface, the data, and the states are written for that product. You should leave with the repository, not only a login to someone else's builder.
Yearly running costs
The build is one payment. The site still needs a name, a place to live, and someone to update it. Compare quotes over a few years, not only the first invoice.
Domain
GoDaddy Asia lists domain registration at about RM30–RM200 a year. Acclaira, citing GoDaddy, uses about RM30 a year for a common domain.
Hosting
GoDaddy Asia lists hosting at about RM200–RM2,900 a year. A busy shop or app needs more than a small brochure. A website builder often folds hosting into the monthly fee.
SSL
Many hosts include the certificate. GoDaddy Asia lists a typical SSL certificate at about RM200–RM500 a year when you buy it separately.
Maintenance
GoDaddy Asia lists professional maintenance at RM2,000–RM5,000 a year, and also RM50–RM500 or more a month if you hire someone. Those are published ranges, not my retainer. I quote maintenance after looking at the site.
Website maintenance is the page for care after launch.
Freelancer, agency, or doing it yourself
Do it yourself
A builder can put a small site online cheaply. GoDaddy's own Asia guide starts a basic small-business site around RM500–RM3,000 a year. You trade money for your own time, and the site stays inside that builder.
Freelancer
Acclaira's June 2026 guide puts a freelancer or small agency around RM2,500–RM10,000 for a business site. You talk to the person doing the work. Quality and what happens after launch vary, so read the quote, not the job title.
Agency
The same Acclaira guide puts a full agency build around RM7,000–RM20,000 or more. ELF Digital Studio's October 2026 guide puts a full-service agency around RM8,000–RM25,000 and up. You may get a writer and a project manager as well as a developer. I do not publish an agency rate of my own.
If you want a person rather than a package, the freelance web developer page describes how I take a project.
How to compare quotes
- Who owns the domain, the hosting account, and the code when the invoice is paid?
- Is the handover a repository and admin access, or only a login on the builder's account?
- What happens after launch: a named support period, or a new quote for every fix?
- Does the quote say how the site should load on a phone, or only how many pages it has?
- Are the page title, the canonical URL, and the basic structured data included?
- Who writes the words and supplies the photos?
How I scope a quote
I do not publish a price list or a package. After a short call I write down the pages or screens, whether the interface is custom, whether there is a shop or another integration, who supplies the content, and whether you want care after launch.
A first version can stay small. A shop, accounts, or extra connections can come later. I will say so if a template is enough.
Common questions
How much does a simple company website cost in Malaysia?
Published 2026 guides do not agree on one number. ELF Digital Studio puts a 5–10 page company site around RM2,000–RM5,000. GoDaddy Asia puts a basic small-business site around RM500–RM3,000 a year, which is often a builder plan rather than a custom build. I do not publish a package price. I quote after a call.
How much is website maintenance in Malaysia per year?
GoDaddy Asia lists about RM2,000–RM5,000 a year for professional maintenance, and also RM50–RM500 or more a month. I do not publish a retainer. I quote after a short look at the site. The maintenance page says what that care includes.
Is a freelancer cheaper than an agency?
Often on the headline number, not always on the same scope. Acclaira's June 2026 guide puts freelancer or small-agency sites around RM2,500–RM10,000 and fuller agency builds around RM7,000–RM20,000 or more. Compare what is included: design, content, handover, and support.
Why are some RM500 websites so cheap?
That figure usually buys a template or a website-builder plan, billed monthly or yearly, with little custom design. It can be the right first step. It is not the same job as a site with its own layout, content, accounts, or integrations.
How long does it take to build a website?
I do not publish a standard number of weeks. A few-page company site and a shop or web app are different jobs. The quote includes a timeline once the scope is clear.
